25 crucial questions to ask yourself before redesigning your website

How to plan a high-converting website for your wedding business

You’ve heard me say it before: if you’re serious about wanting to redesign your website in order to help your business grow, then there’s one thing you won’t want to design without: a website strategy.

I explained aaaall about why I recommend a website strategy, what it includes, and how to put one to use in this blog post.

But now I wanna get in to the nitty gritty of what it looks like to dig into this information for your specific business.

These are some of the same questions I ask my clients before we dive into their website strategy.

Here are the 25 questions you need to get clear on before jumping into a redesign:

  1. What exactly do you do and who do you do it for? What’s your elevator pitch?

  2. Who else is offering something similar?

  3. What are your industry peers doing on their website that you also should do? Where are they dropping the ball?

  4. What is special about working with you? How can you highlight those things throughout the website?

  5. What are your top brand goals for the website? How do you want your audience to feel when interacting with it? How do you want to position yourself in the market? How do you want your brand to be perceived?

  6. What are the exact business objectives of the website? What goals are you hoping this website will help your business reach? Name specific and measurable objectives where possible.

  7. How do you want the new website to positively impact your life, both personally and professionally?

  8. Who exactly are you wanting to reach with this website?

  9. How do you plan to get that traffic to the site?

  10. What is your ideal client’s buying journey? What is going through their mind when they land on your website, and what do they need to know before they will be ready to hire you?

  11. What is your ideal sales process? Is it different depending on the service?

  12. What is the number 1 call-to-action?

  13. What pages need to be included on the site (both public and hidden)?

  14. What will be the main goal of each page?

  15. What needs to be included on each page in order to make that happen?

  16. Which links will be included in the top navigation menu and in the footer menu?

  17. What technical functions do you need this website to perform; such as get newsletter signups, book appointments, sell products, integrate social media, host a blog or podcast, etc?

  18. What are you looking for in a website builder?

  19. Which website builder/platform has what you’re looking for?

  20. What third-party integrations will you need?

  21. What will be the costs associated with the website platform, domain, third-party apps, images, legal pages, etc?

  22. How long do you need this website to last you?

  23. How much time do I have to work on it myself?

  24. Based on your answers to all of the above, which areas of your website need to be the focus? (Branding, photography, copy, blog, SEO, web design, email marketing, booking systems, etc.)

  25. Which areas of the website are you okay with doing yourself? Which need to be outsourced?

Once you’ve worked through these questions, you should have some clarity about how to proceed with rebuilding your website!
