Do wedding vendors need a privacy policy or terms & conditions on their website?

Your website is the front door to your business—you’ve worked hard to make it feel like scrolling through your site feels like walking into your cozy, welcoming home.

Just like you wouldn’t leave your home or storefront unprotected and uninsured, it’s super important to protect your website, too.

Don’t open the door for liability or copycats by missing these key documents. Let’s talk about how to stay out of legal hot water with your website.

 

What’s the difference between a privacy policy and a terms & conditions, and are they legally required?

So here’s the dealio…

Privacy Policy

Your website is most likely collecting personal information from visitors—things like data cookies and contact information. Laws around the world dictate that you must have a Privacy Policy that’s easy to find, clearly stating what you will and won’t do with the personal info you collect.

If you are collecting any personal information on your website (yes, that includes a newsletter signup or a contact form) or using cookies to track your traffic, you are required by law to have a Privacy Policy linked in your footer.

Uh huh—that one’s not optional. It’s there to protect your website visitors and provide transparency about how you use their data!

A Privacy Policy will generally cover:

  • What information you collect

  • How you collect it (e.g., through forms, cookies, etc.)

  • Why you collect it (e.g., to improve services, send newsletters, etc.)

  • How you store and protect it

  • Third parties with whom you share this information

  • How users can control their information (e.g., opting out, accessing their data, etc.)

 

Terms & Conditions

A Terms & Conditions page, on the other hand, is highly recommended because it protects YOU, your content, and your products from theft & plagiarism.

You’re putting your heart and soul into your work, showcasing your words, branding, and expertise for everyone to see. A T&C on your website will legally protect these precious assets from being plagiarized or sold by someone else.

a good Terms & Conditions page usually includes:

  • Rules and guidelines for using your website

  • Intellectual property rights (like your content, logo, and trademarks)

  • Limitation of liability (protecting you from certain legal claims)

  • Governing law (which laws govern the agreement)

  • Termination clause (what happens if someone abuses your site)
